Nathalie Hrizi is a radical-left labor union activist working as the vice president of substitutes at United Educators of San Francisco (UESF), the local teachers’ union for the San Francisco school district. The union is part of the AFL-CIO and conducted a major teachers’ strike in February 2026 San Francisco. 1 2 She has run unsuccessfully for California Commissioner of Insurance as a member of the Peace and Freedom Party three times. 3
Political Involvement
In 2012, Nathalie Hrizi was the campaign manager for Peta Lindsay’s failed campaign for president with the Party for Socialism and Liberation. 4 Lindsay’s platform included making health care, education, and affordable housing Constitutional rights; shutting down all U.S. military bases worldwide; ending capitalism; and nationalizing all banks. 4
In 2014, 2018, and 2022, Hrizi unsuccessfully ran to be the California Commissioner of Insurance with the Peace and Freedom Party. 3 She won 2.8 percent of the primary vote (3,390 votes) on June 7, 2022, but did not appear to raise any money. 3 5 In 2018, she also lost in the primary after receiving $95 in total contributions and spending $1,107. 6 She received 11,081 votes in 2018 and 6,495 votes in 2014. 7
Teachers’ Union Activities
Nathalie Hrizi is a public school teacher, as well as United Educators of San Francisco’s vice president of substitutes, a position for which she received over $32,000 in 2024. 1 8 The union’s tax records claim she spent 40 hours per week on the role. 8
Hrizi was instrumental in a February 2026 San Francisco educators’ strike. In the last round of negotiations, Hrizi claimed to have increased the minimum hourly wage for classified educators from $17 to $30 and the minimum salary for newer educators from the upper $50,000s or lower $60,000s to the $70,000s. Hrizi claimed, “We were forced into striking.” 2
The bargaining team for the February round of negotiations consisted of 120 people, nearly double that of the previous “contract fight” of 65 people, which was the biggest bargaining team UESF had ever had at the time. 2 Hrizi and her team also “achieved sanctuary-school language” protecting illegal immigrants enrolled in San Francisco public schools. 2
