    Education and Career

Moshiur Rahman received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College in New York City in 2021. He went on to earn his J.D. at Widener University School of Law in 2024. In 2025, Rahman became an associate attorney at Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP in New York City. 2

In December 2024, Rahman was named the Assistant National Youth Director of Muslim Ummah of North America, a Muslim advocacy group that claims to promote the Islamic faith in North America. 4  5

    Muslim Ummah of North America

Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA) Youth is the student branch of Muslim Ummah of North America, a Muslim advocacy group in Brooklyn, New York. It has been accused of being a proxy group for a Bangladeshi branch of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), a violent South Asian Islamist movement and political party founded in India by the Islamist theorist Abul Ala Maududi. MUNA has become an influential Palestinian nationalist group within the United States and has ties to several radical Islamists from South Asia. 3  3  6

    Activities

Among its initiatives, MUNA’s central project is the annual MUNA Convention that it hosts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 7 This convention brings together Muslim leaders from various organizations, including the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), the Fiqh Council of North America, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and the Muslim American Society (MAS). 8 The convention regularly features left-wing speakers, including in 2024 when radical-left activist and Black Lives Matter movement supporter Shaun King addressed the convention. 9

    Connections to Radicalism

In 2010, MUNA organized a picnic in honor of Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, Jamaat-e-Islami’s assistant secretary general. In 2013, a Bangladeshi war crimes tribunal sentenced Kamaruzzaman to death for the murder and torture of unarmed civilians, including the massacre of 120 unarmed farmers during the Bangladesh Independence War. Kamaruzzaman’s defenders argued the conviction resulted from an unfair trial, 6 but he was hanged for his crimes in 2015. 10

MUNA’s national vice president, Abul Faizullah, praised Abdul Qader Mollah, another senior Jamaat-e-Islami official. Mollah was also sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, which included allegedly assisting Pakistani troops with the murder of 369 people. 6  11

MUNA has had speakers at its convention argue for the establishment of Sharia law in the United States. 12  13  It has also supported radical pro-Palestinian groups and events, including the March on Washington for Gaza in January 2024, which was organized by several pro-Hamas and pro-Houthi entities. 3

    Address at MUNA Youth Conference

In 2023, Moshiur Rahman delivered an address at the Muslim Ummah of North America Youth conference entitled “Manners that Matter – Building a Disciplined Character.” During the address, Rahman encouraged the youth in attendance to pray regularly, respect their elders, pray for other Muslims, treat their neighbors with compassion, and perform small, consistent good deeds. 14
