James Joseph is a tax lawyer who works for left-of-center non-profit organizations. Joseph is the co-chair of Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

Career

Joseph started work for Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law as the co-chair of its Voting Rights Project Support Committee and Investment Committee. ¹ Mr. Joseph has long been an expert in the field of tax exempt organizations where “He provides advice to corporations and individual donors on charitable, advocacy-related, and political giving.” ²

Joseph has served on the IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt Government Entities, and is chair of an American Bar Association sub-committee on exempt organizations. ³ Joseph’s past clients include the Markle Foundation, the ONE Campaign, United Nations Foundation, and the League of Women Voters. ⁴ Joseph now works for Arnold and Porter, one of the biggest law firms in D.C., and has received the Ally of Justice award for his work for the Human Rights Campaign. ⁵
