Daniel Moirao is a retired public school district administrator from California who runs his own consulting business, works with public schools, and advocates for critical race theory-aligned racial ideologies. He says there is a “lack of equity” in the world. 1

Moirao’s LinkedIn account refers to him as a “Lead Equity Warrior” at Dr. Dan Presents, a consulting firm he runs. 2 At Joliet School District 86 in Illinois, he coached district administrators on how to become “equity leaders.” 3

In a 2020 column he posted on LinkedIn about the police-custody death of George Floyd, Moirao claimed that white privilege had been exposed and the “system” was working for the people for which it was designed to work and not for minorities. 4 He claimed that Floyd was a “a mentor in his religious community.” 5 Floyd’s killer, Derek Chauvin, was later convicted of murder at trial. 6

Background

Moriao turned 69 years of age in 2021. 7 He stated in an October 2011 interview that both of his parents were high school dropouts who divorced when he was in sixth grade, and he is the only child of four siblings to earn a college degree. 8

Moirao graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in child psychology. 9

Moirao has been the superintendent at numerous school districts including South Monterey County in California 10 and the Hayward Unified School District in California and was an adjunct faculty professor for St. Mary’s College and University of Southern California. 11

He was hired as the interim superintendent for the Dublin Unified School District in July of 2020 12 and he completed his contract in June 2021. 13 He received $1,300 per day while working for Dublin Unified School District. 14

Column on Death of George Floyd

On June 19, 2020, Moirao posted a column on LinkedIn about the death of George Floyd, less than a month after Floyd was killed by a police officer. Moirao described Floyd as a “blue-collar worker, hip hop artist and a mentor in his religious community.” 15 In the column, Moirao compared the 1991 Rodney King incident with Floyd’s death and questioned what progress has been made.

“White privilege has been boldly exposed to the world” 16 Moirao wrote. He added the “system is working for those whom it was designed to serve.” Moirao added that the people who designed that system did not reflect “differences in race and gender.” 17

Consulting Work

Moirao has spent time working as a consultant with school districts and as a speaking consultant.

Dr. Dan Presents

Moirao founded Dr. Dan Presents in July 2008 and stated the goal is “to disrupt equality to achieve equity for all students.” 18

Speaking Consultancy

Moirao also does work as a speaking consultant since September 2011. He coaches executives in speaking and presentation skills, according to his LinkedIn account. 19 Moirao has served in administrative positions with the National Speakers Association since 2014. 20

School Administrator Candidate Consulting

Moirao works as a California consultant for McPherson and Jacobson, LLC, which is a Nebraska-based company that finds administrative candidates for school districts. 21

Joliet School District 86

Parents Defending Education, an advocacy group critical of critical race theory and similar left-progressive racial ideologies, reported that Joliet School District 86 in Illinois hired Moirao as an “equity” consultant. Moirao worked to make it a “culturally proficient” school community, charging $800 for one-hour to 90-minute virtual coaching sessions. Moirao charged an extra $500 per day if he had to travel to the school district. The total contract was for $55,000 and it ran from August 2020 to June 2021. 22
