Christopher Bake is an executive committee member and head of origination at Vitol, a multinational energy and commodity trading company headquartered in Singapore. Vitol trades coal, natural gas, liquified natural gas, oil, and other natural resource commodities. Bake is currently an emeritus chair and member of the GroundTruth Project, a left-of-center media and journalism organization that covers local news and runs the Report for America project.

Early Life

Christopher Bake graduated from the University of Texas in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, specializing in international business marketing. 1  He then worked for BP and Phibro before joining Vitol in 1995. Bake has held several global leadership positions with Vitol, including leading offices in Bahrain, Buenos Aires, Dubai, Houston, and London. 2

Advocacy Contributions

While it is difficult to determine the specific amount that Bake contributes to the GroundTruth Project, the organization has stated that its global efforts are supported by the Bake Family Trust. 3 The GroundTruth Project does not provide a timeline for receiving funding, but the organization has stated that it has received somewhere between $1 million and $5 million from the Bake Family Trust. 4

Christopher Bake and his family are the beneficiaries of the Bake Family Trust, and Bake is the economic settlor of the trust. 5
