Alicia Singham Goodwin
Alicia Singham Goodwin is a left-of-center political organizer and a member of the Steering Committee of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) as of 2026, and has held the position of political director of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ), a left-of-center Jewish advocacy organization, since June 2023. Goodwin is the niece of Neville Roy Singham, a technology entrepreneur and left-of-center donor who has funded organizations promoting positions aligned with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In June 2026, prior to the November 2026 midterm elections, she made comments declaring that the NYC-DSA could potentially endorse a democratic socialist running as a Democrat during the 2028 presidential election. Background
Both of Alicia Singham Goodwin’s parents are reported members of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. Goodwin’s uncle, Neville Roy Singham, is the founder of the technology consultancy Thoughtworks, which has been accused of funding media outlets and nonprofits espousing positions supported by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). 2 4
Activism and Career
In October 2023, following the terrorist group Hamas’s attacks against Israel, Alicia Goodwin was arrested during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City alongside then- New York state assemblyman and NYC-DSA member Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani would later be elected New York City Mayor. Goodwin has previously made comments supporting the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. 4 5
Goodwin has held the position of political director of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice since June 2023. During Zohran Mamdani’s 2025 mayoral campaign, Goodwin helped lead “Jews for Zohran,” a coalition organized to mobilize support for Mamdani’s candidacy in the NYC Jewish community. 4 2
Goodwin held a position on NYC-DSA’s Steering Committee, the chapter’s elected leadership body, and was a delegate representing NYC-DSA’s Bronx/Upper Manhattan branch to the national DSA convention held in Chicago in August 2025. Goodwin has also co-sponsored several internal NYC-DSA convention proposals including a 2022 proposal to restructure the chapter’s officer positions and a proposal directing the Steering Committee to pursue statewide coordination among New York DSA chapters. 1 6 7
In June 2026, prior to the November 2026 midterm elections, several NYC-DSA-backed and self-described democratic socialist candidates won Democratic primary elections. In response to these victories, Goodwin joined a national DSA call describing the electoral wins as “just one piece” of building political power needed to “transform people’s lives.” During the call, she also discussed a new DSA-based a policy agenda including rent freezes, “fast and free” public transportation, expanding childcare pilot programs associated with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani into a universal childcare program, and pursuing tax increases in the state legislature in Albany. 3
Goodwin also commented, “[w]e’ll have the same uphill battle that we’ve had every year we fought to tax the rich, but we’re going in with double the number of our socialists in office and hopefully double the number of DSA members on the ground to really keep the pressure up.” Goodwin further claimed that continued growth could allow the organization to back a democratic socialist candidate for president in 2028, stating “If we grow and we build enough between now and then, the next year in 2028, we might be working on a campaign for a democratic socialist for president.” 3
