Workers’ Voice, also known by the Spanish name La Voz de los Trabajadores, is a socialist-leaning political organization in the United States that advocates for radical-left economics, open borders, and the creation of an international socialist revolutionary party. Workers’ Voice claims climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity and endorsed a letter defending the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel. Workers’ Voice describes itself as built on the tradition of communist leaders like Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, and Leon Trotsky. 1 2 3 4

History

Workers’ Voice is a far-left socialist-leaning organization based in the United States that was founded as a result of a merger of Socialist Resurgence and Workers’ Voice in March 2022. On March 19 and 20, 2022, Workers’ Voice and Socialist Resurgence held a congress with observers from the International Workers League, Revolutionary Socialist Organizing Project, Tempest Collective, Corrientes Obrera, and affiliates of the Revolutionary Socialist Network. At the congress, Workers’ Voice and Socialist Resurgence voted to merge.  The groups stated they had two similar traditions of “world Trotskyism” and that the united group voted to be in “political solidarity” with the International Workers League – Fourth International (IWL). Worker’s Voice also described itself as “a sympathizing section” of the International Workers’ League. IWL attempts to build revolutionary parties in the tradition of communist leaders like Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, and Leon Trotsky. 5 6 7

The group claims its goal is to create a socialist society, which it defines as a place defined by economic collectivism; democratic control of the government solely by workers; and equitable wealth distribution based on far-left concepts of intersectionality, with a focus on “dismantling all forms of oppression (including but not limited to racism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, and ableism).” 8

Activities and Principles

Workers’ Voice has a ten-point program outlining its effort to achieve a “revolutionary party” in the United States, which it believes is “inseparable form the struggle for a revolutionary international party” [emphasis in original]. The ten-point program includes: defending unions and worker organization rights, including a labor movement independent from the Republican and Democratic parties; stopping deportations of illegal immigrants; dismantling racist policing and reparation for racial minorities; abortion on demand; universal government-provided health care and child care; greater government protections for LGBT-identifying people; state ownership of the energy industry and 100%  weather-dependent energy use; ending U.S. military intervention abroad, including ending U.S. aid to Israel and promotion of a democratic and secular Palestinian state; full integration of disabled people into community life; and state control of industry, transportation, and banking. 9

Workers’ Voice calls for workers to conduct a “revolutionary overthrow of capitalism” to construct socialism. The group claims the only way to do this is through a “revolutionary socialist party.” Workers’ Voice claims it has been attempting to create such a party, which it asserts must be a “militant labor party” separate from the Democratic Party. 10

Workers’ Voice also argues that climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity and advocates for a “planned socialist economy” powered by weather dependent resources. 11

The organization advocates for open borders, claims that African Americans and Native Americans are oppressed within the United States, and calls the United States an “imperialist, colonial power.” 12

Workers’ Voice also publishes the Workers’ Action newspaper. The July-August 2024 edition of Workers’ Action featured articles arguing there the presidential election which, at the time, was between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden provided “no choices for working people.” The publication also promoted abortion, “queer liberation,” and support for campus pro-Palestinian encampments. The paper features all articles in both English and Spanish. 13 14

Additionally, the Workers’ Voice website features information on Marxist theory, including texts from Vladmir Lenin, Karl Marx, Frederich Engels, and Leon Trotsky. 15

Anti-Israel Advocacy

Workers’ Voice endorsed a Philly Palestine Coalition statement defending the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, saying the attack was “provoked by decades of Israeli state-sanctioned violence.” 16
