Background

Trust for London is a left-of-center London-based grantmaking organization that prioritizes funding organizations addressing poverty in London, England. The organization claims to be one of London’s largest funders. According to its website, Trust for London provides approximately £10 million (around $12.6 million) in funding to organizations each year. The organization also funds “large-scale campaigns and research.” 5

The organization was originally founded in 1878 after a Royal Commission created two funds, the City Church Fund and the Central Fund, to administer endowments to the Church of England in London as well as poor inhabitants of London, respectively. Together, the two funds constituted the City Parochial Foundation. 6

The U.K. Government abolished the Greater London Council in 1986 as part of local government reorganization and provided an endowment of £10 million (around $12.6 million) to the City Parochial Foundation to manage a new independent Trust for London. 7
