Ta’ayush

Ta’ayush claims to document alleged interactions between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. ⁴ The group has previously received support from several Israeli academics including

2016 Israel Prize winner and Hebrew University of Jerusalem professor David Shulman. ⁵

Activities

Ta’ayush is an Israel-based advocacy group that claims to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. ⁶ The group also accuses the State of Israel of being an “apartheid” state and “an armed fortress in the heart of the Middle East.”  ^{1 2}

Ta’ayush published weekly digests which the group claims to show encounters between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. In 2013, a Ta’ayush activist claimed to have taken a photograph showing an Israeli settler shaking hands with an Israeli border police officer after the officers allegedly disrupted Palestinian farmers from grazing their sheep in the South Hebron Hills in the West Bank. ^{7 4}

In 2015, Ta’ayush helped raise funds for Mahmoud Awad, a Palestinian who claimed to have been attacked by an Israeli settler in the West Bank in 2011. ⁸

In 2018, five Ta’ayush activists claimed to have been injured by a group of Israeli settlers in the West Bank. The settlers alleged that the activists had been provoking them, while the Ta’ayush members claimed to have been attacked while documenting alleged illegal construction in the West Bank. ⁹

In June 2022, Ta’ayush organized a demonstration in front of the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem, urging an end to evictions of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. Ta’ayush claimed the evictions were an “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians by Israeli settlers. ¹⁰

Ta’ayush has previously received support from Israeli academics including David Shulman, the Renee Lang Professor of Humanistic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2016, Shulman received the Israel Prize in Religious Studies for his work on Indian languages and culture, a prize worth approximately $20,000. He donated the prize money to Ta’ayush to cover the group’s legal fees and transportation costs. ⁵

Alliance for Global Justice

The Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) is the fiscal sponsor of Ta’ayush. ³ AFGJ is an organizing group that serves as a fiscal sponsor to several left-of-center projects including Refuse Fascism, United Students Against Sweatshops, and Stop Mass Incarceration. ^{11 12} The group was formed through the Nicaragua Network, an organization which supported the communist-aligned Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. ¹³

In addition to its fiscal sponsorship of Ta’ayush, the Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) fiscally sponsors other anti-Israel groups, including the One Democratic State Campaign. ^{14 15} In January 2023, AFGJ received a federal complaint over its fundraising efforts for Collectif Palestine Vaincra (CPV), a French nonprofit organization that is alleged to be a partner of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization and an umbrella organization of groups connected to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). In 2023, Marc Greendorfer, executive director of pro-Israel advocacy group Zachor Legal Institute, released a statement requesting the IRS to investigate AFGJ for “providing ‘material support’ to terrorism.” ¹⁶

In 2024, the Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) reported $6,707,856 in total revenue, $8,818,230 in total expenses, and $9,058,695 in total assets. ¹⁷

AFGJ has received funding by several left-of-organizations including George Soros’ Open Society Foundations and the Tides Foundation. ^{18  19}
