People’s Coalition (PC)
The People’s Coalition (PC), also known as Our People’s Coalition, is a left-of-center Michigan-based advocacy group that advocates for left-of-center public policies and supports electing delegates to state and local Democratic Party bodies from the left wing of the party. 1 The organization promotes equal outcomes in the areas of race, gender, economics, health care, and the environment; dismantling systems that perpetuate wealth inequality; collaboration with climate equal outcome organizations; labor rights; illegal immigrants; racial reparations; and cultivating cooperation with other left-of-center group. 2 3

Activities
The People’s Coalition released a statement on April 8, 2025, opposing the closure of the University of Michigan’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) office and programs. 4
The organization advocated that its members pack the room for a public meeting of the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners to oppose a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) subpoena of county records. 5
People’s Coalition’s Facebook posts include advocacy for the Michigan Democratic Party District 6 “unity slate,” which includes both co-founders of PC. 6
PC promoted the “Join the Fight! Resistance Summit,” on February 15, 2025, an event sponsored by left-of-center Michigan United, a group that opposes calls to end sanctuary cities; left-of-center Detroit Action, a project of Tides Advocacy; End Gun Violence Michigan-Action, a group that advocates holding gun manufacturers accountable for gun violence; 482 Forward, a group that opposes school choice; the Sierra Club MI; and Reproductive Freedom for All MI, a group that opposes all restrictions on abortion. The event’s designated purpose was to “fight the Trump and Musk’s takeover.” 7 8
On April 1, 2025, PC posted on Instagram calls to United States Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) to vote in favor of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) resolution blocking aid to Israel. On February 6, PC reposted an announcement of a “Know Your Rights” webinar to be led by U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and sponsored by ACLU Michigan and mIRC. 9 10
PC endorsed Progressives First’s slate for the Michigan Democratic Party Progressive Caucus along with MISOLIDARITY, the Voter Collective For Co-Liberation, and the Muslim Alumni and Student Committee PAC. 11
People
Arika Lycan is co-founder of the People’s Coalition, a board member of the Michigan Democratic Party Progressive Caucus, volunteer team lead with Listen to Michigan/The Uncommitted National Movement, and a member of the executive board of the Washtenaw County Democratic Party (WCDP). 7 12
Rima Mohammad is a co-founder of PC and identifies as a “Palestinian Muslim American.” She is the first Arab American elected as a trustee of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education. Rima garnered an endorsement from U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in her run for Michigan House of Representatives in 2024. 12 13 14
Funding
The People’s Coalition raises funding through ActBlue and includes rules for donations that include requirements of United States citizenship, that donations are not made while living abroad, that donations must be made from donor’s own funds, and that donors cannot be federal contractors. 12
