National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) is a network of organizations and individuals that advocate left-of-center policies related to economic and social equity. It claims to provide research, investment, media communications, grantmaking, advocacy, training, and litigation. 1
One of the Coalition’s primary initiatives is the Just Economy Pledge, a statement of commitment to several left-of-center economic proposals within the United States. The Pledge began following the COVID-19 pandemic and the George Floyd protests of 2020. 2
Background
National Community Reinvestment Coalition is a network of organizations and individuals founded in 1990 that advocates left-of-center economic and social equity policies. 1
Activities
According to its website, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) engages in research, investment, media communications, grantmaking, advocacy, training, and litigation to assist low-income communities by increasing “economic mobility.” 1
As of January 2025, NCRC claims to have purchased or renovated over 700 homes, committed $574 billion to local communities, and had trained over 10,000 activists and policymakers on housing and lending advocacy. 3
NCRC also advocates for equitable health care and housing programs, trains entrepreneurs and financiers, provides grants to local organizations, investigates and litigates against agencies it claims are discriminatory against certain communities, and advocates for consumer protection programs. 1
It also runs the NCRC Community Development Fund that passes out loans intended to help “Black-, Brown-, and woman-owned businesses” as well as advocate against what it describes as the “nation’s racial wealth gap.” 1
Its member organizations include over 700 nonprofit organizations, civil rights groups, minority- and women-owned business associations, housing groups, healthcare organizations, faith institutions, state and local government agencies, and private individuals. 1
In March 2023, Biden administration Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge spoke to the NCRC’s “Just Economy Conference” about how to end alleged discrimination in the economy. 4
One of the Coalition’s primary initiatives is the Just Economy Pledge, a statement of commitment to several left-of-center economic proposals within the United States. The Pledge began following the COVID-19 pandemic and the George Floyd protests of 2020. 2
