Background

March for Democracy began as a Facebook page starting in February 2025, with the intention of organizing left-of-center activists in the Kansas City area. On February 2025, around the time of its formation, it released a post claiming “This is a true grassroots effort to show strength and solidarity against the cruel and illegal dismantling of our federal programs and institutions. We are your neighbors and your friends, and we can’t sit idly by and watch our country crumble.” 4

On March 15, 2025, the group helped organize a “Save Our Civil Service Rally” in Kansas City at which activists and attendees protested against the second Trump administration and its Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). 2 A Facebook post by the group claimed, “This is a chance to show up for our Civil Service friends, neighbors, and loved ones. They’ve given their careers to making our country great, and we owe it to them to get loud about DOGE’s illegal dismissal of thousands of federal employees.” 5

Activities

On March 29, 2025, March for Democracy helped organize a protest in Kansas City, Missouri while inviting left-of-center activists to attend on its Facebook page. The rally was to protest the policies of the second Trump administration as well as its Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). 6

An article by the Kansas City Star claimed that the rally on March 29 included “thousands” of attendees who protested DOGE along with other policies by the new Administration regarding federal employee cuts and immigration. 2
