Liberation or Liberation News is the news outlet of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, ¹ a radical-left political faction. The party believes that capitalism “is the source of the main problems confronting humanity” and must be replaced by socialism, which the party believes allows “poor and working people [to] have power.” ² A paper version of Liberation is distributed in certain cities. ²

The news outlet has an “Analysis” section and a section called “Militant Journalism,” which it describes as “reports from the frontlines of workers’ struggles, from street rallies to direct actions.” ³

Masthead

Ben Becker is an editor of Liberation’s print edition and one of the founding members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Saul Kanowitz was previously the outlet’s chief financial officer. ⁴

Tahia Islam, Katie Miernicki, Aviva Levine, Jasper Saah, Horacio Rodríguez, Carley Riggins, Nino Brown, Deja Gaston, Benjamin Zinevich, Mason Puryear, Sebastian Puerta, Lisa Eugene, and Adam Barrington have all written for Liberation.  ^{5  6  7  8}

Tahia Islam was a leader of an anti-Israel protest with the Shut It Down for Palestine coalition at Columbia University in April 2024, as encampments in support of Palestinian nationalism proliferated on university campuses across the United States. ⁹

Miernicki majored in political science and philosophy at Temple University. ¹⁰ She was also Vice President of Temple Young Democratic Socialists at the time. ¹⁰ Miernicki also attended a January 2026 protest in Philadelphia with the Philadelphia Party for Socialism and Liberation that to condemned United States’ capture of Venezuelan de facto president Nicolas Maduro. ¹¹

Levine is also an organizer of Chicago’s chapter of the left-of-center group Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) ¹² and has accused Israel of apartheid. ¹³
