The Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association (FBIAA) is an advocacy group representing employees of, or previously employed by, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBIAA’s membership consists of more than 14,000 active and retired special agents. 1

Activities

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association (FBIAA) was founded in 1981 and based in Washington, D.C. 2 In 1990, the FBIAA advocated in favor of the Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act, which intended to increase the pay of federal employees to levels closer to private sector pay. The legislation was passed by the U.S Congress that same year. 3

In 2010, the FBIAA supported the passage of the Special Agent Hicks Families of Fallen Heroes Act, which would allow federal law enforcement agencies to provide financial support to the families of agents and staff killed in the line of duty. 3

Membership

According to its website, membership to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association (FBIAA) grants access to three charitable funds for employees: the FBIAA Membership Assistance Fund for financially-impacted employees, the FBIAA Memorial College Fund, and the SA Jeffrey Drubner Legacy Fund that provides financial support for the families of FBI agents killed in the line of duty. 4 As of 2025, reports claimed that over 90 percent of active FBI agents were members of the FBIAA. 5

Second Trump Administration

As of 2025, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association (FBIAA) has criticized President Donald Trump and the second Trump administration, especially concerning the appointment of former New York Police Department (NYPD) officer and U.S. Secret Service agent Dan Bongino as FBI Deputy Director. 6 5 7

Rumored Federal Workforce Cuts

On February 22, 2025, the FBIAA sent out a letter to several federal officials advocating for them opposing potential cuts to the federal workforce, including rumors of the FBI planning to fire nearly 1,000 agents. This was after a memo was sent by the Office of Personal Management (OPM) to federal agencies ordering them to evaluate employees on probationary status. 8

January 6 Investigations

In February 2025, the FBIAA sought a temporary restraining order against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to block the Trump administration from disclosing the names of FBI agents who investigated President Trump and the rioters who took part in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. According to the restraining order, the group claimed, “[i]t is clear that the threatened disclosure is a prelude to an unlawful purge of the FBI driven solely by the Trump Administration’s vengeful and political motivations.” 9
