A15 Action is a radical left-wing, anti-Israel activist group that seeks to disrupt the global economy through targeted economic blockades in cities around the world. Activists under the group’s banner blocked roadways, bridges, and access to ports and airports in cities around the world on April 15, 2024, in an effort to clog “the arteries of capitalism” and damage the global economy, which it believes is “complicit in genocide” against Palestinians. 1 2
History and Activities
A15 Action was reportedly first established as just a website and social media accounts on March 22, 2024. The organization claims to conduct activities internationally but is reportedly focused on the United States. 3
The primary goal of A15 Action is to create economic disruption to support Palestinians and create a “free Palestine.” The group calls on participating cities to join it “blocking the arteries of capitalism and jamming the wheels of production” because “the global economy is complicit in genocide.” 4
As of April 2024, A15 Action’s main activity was to coordinate a multi-city “economic blockade” on April 15, 2024, “in solidarity with Palestine” and with the “aim of causing the most economic impact.” The organization urged activists to move beyond symbolic actions to engage in activities that “cause pain to the economy.” A15 Action claimed activists in dozens of cities participated in its economic blockade activities, including Sydney, Australia; Kansas City, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Miami, Florida; San Francisco, California; Montreal, Canada; London, United Kingdom; Johannesburg, South Africa; Belfast, Ireland; Athens, Greece; Copenhagen, Denmark; Barcelona, Spain; Medellin, Colombia; Mexico City, Mexico; Stockholm, Sweden; Mount Peral, Newfoundland; and others. Regional and local contacts for the group in various cities across the United States and internationally all use the same, anonymous form email on the pro-privacy email provider Proton Mail. 5
Activists who participated in the April 15 blockade were called upon to commit to a “mutual solidarity agreement.” The agreement called on protestors to expand their blockades “or initiate other actions” if one city’s protestors faced police resistance. The agreement also asked protestors to not criticize other protestors in the press or on social media and emphasized that all local actions would be planned locally. 6
According to A15 Action’s Twitter/X profile, on April 15, 2024, A15-affiliated activists blocked an entrance to technology business Intel in Portland, Oregon, to protest Intel’s proposed chip plant in Israel; blocked a roadway to the Seattle, Washington, airport for over three hours; stopped production at a Tesla manufacturing facility in Fremont, California; blocked a freeway in Oakland, California, for five hours; blocked I-5 in Eugene, Oregon, blocked the entrance to Chicago, O’Hare airport for over 2.5 hours; blocked the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California; occupied a European Commission building in Dublin, Ireland; occupied an Australian Foreign Ministry Office in Adelaide, Australia; blocked access to the industrial port of Athens in Athens, Greece; blocked access to the Halifax port in Nova Scotia, Canada; and more. 7
Associations
A15 Action is associated with the National Lawyers Guild, a radical-left association of attorneys, law students, legal workers, and jailhouse lawyers. A15 Action urged activists in every city where the organization intended to impose an economic blockade to contact their local National Lawyers Guild chapter to gain legal support and access to a bail fund. A15 Action also promoted legal resources from the National Lawyers Guild to aid in protests. 8
A15 Action also reportedly directed supporters to donate money to Community Justice Exchange, a radical-left organization that works on criminal-justice related issues and is fiscally sponsored by the Tides Center. 9 A15 Action’s Bail & Legal Defense fund is hosted by ActBlue and donations to the fund are directed to Community Justice Exchange. 10
