The TomKat Foundation is a private left-of-center foundation not to be confused with the KatTom Foundation, previously titled the TomKat Foundation until 2023, that is the primary grantmaking philanthropy of Tom Steyer, a billionaire hedge fund manager and major Democratic Party donor who ran for the presidency in the 2020 election. The original foundation succeeded the TomKat Charitable Trust in 2015, which was Steyer’s primary foundation from 2008 until it closed operations in 2015. 1 2 3 4
Founded in 2022, the Foundation was initially established as the TomKat II Foundation, but switched names in 2023 to the TomKat Foundation after the previous organization changed its name to the KatTom Foundation that same year. 5 4
