Mijente Support Committee is a left-of-center activist organization that claims to represent the interests of individuals who self-identify as Latino and Chicano. 1
Mijente Support Committee is the 501(c)(3) organization associated with the 501(c)(4) activist organization Mijente. 2 In 2022, Mijente Support Committee received $600,000 from the left-of-center Tides Foundation, $325,000 from the Foundation for a Just Society, and $300,000 from the Ford Foundation. 3
History and Leadership
Mijente Support Committee was founded in 2017, two years after its sister organization, Mijente. 4
Marisa Franco is the co-founder and executive director of the Mijente Support Committee and its sister organization Mijente. Prior to founding Mijente, Franco was a national campaign advisor for the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and an organizer for the Right to the City Alliance. 5 She is on the board of the left-of-center Marguerite Casey Foundation. 6
She also held roles in the Right To the City Alliance, Domestic Workers United, and People Organized to Win Employment Rights (POWER). 7 8
Activities and Funding

The organization uses the far-left terms “Latinx” and “Chicanx” to refer to Latino and Chicano individuals in attempt to remove gendered language. It also claims that these individuals are “criminalized” as their population numbers grow in the United States. 1
Mijente Support Committee claimed that immigrants were a “primary target of the Trump administration” and that the Biden administration’s approach to policymaking should include immigrants. The group has criticized Biden administration Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for enforcing immigration law. 5
In conjunction with the AFL-CIO labor union, Mijente Support Committee published a toolkit for activists and employers to resist raids and audits from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to enforce immigration-related employment laws. 9
In 2022, the organization spent $3,944,202 on its program activities. It opposes what it considers the erosion of true democracy and promotes transformative change. 10 The organization also runs a blog and several left-of-center activist campaigns. 11
Activist Campaigns
Mijente Support Committee runs several left-of-center activist campaigns. Its No Tech for ICE campaign opposes the use of technology by Department of Homeland Security agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Bureau to identify and deport illegal immigrants. 12 The “Chinga la Migra” campaign (Spanish for “F**k ICE”) opposes immigration raids and deportations. 13 Las Vidas Negras Importan campaign supports the far-left Black Lives Matter Movement; 14 Sin El Estado runs activist campaigns; 15 and La Vida Local supports various Hispanic entrepreneurs. 16
Previously, Mijente Support Committee ran activist campaigns encouraging get-out-the-vote efforts, 17 18 expansion of sanctuary cities that protect illegal immigrants from deportation, 19 and other projects that opposed Trump administration-era immigration policies. 20
Funding
Mijente Support Committee receives its funding from individual contributions and donations. 21 In 2022, Mijente Support Committee reported revenue of $4,858,153 and expenses of $5,547,450. The organization reported revenue of $5,384,439 and expenses of $2,955,337 in 2021. 22
In 2022, Mijente Support Committee received $600,000 from the left-of-center Tides Foundation, $325,000 from the Foundation for a Just Society, and $300,000 from the left-of-center Ford Foundation. 3 In 2021, the organization received $330,000 from the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation in 2021. 23
In 2020, Mijente Support Committee received $170,000 from the left-of-center Sixteen Thirty Fund, 24 and $125,000 from the Tides Foundation. 25 In 2019, the organization received $190,000 from Amalgamated Charitable Foundation, 26 $24,009 from New Venture Fund, 27 and $15,000 from the Tides Foundation. 28
