History and Leadership

Love Not Blood Campaign (LNBC) was founded on July 14, 2014. ⁴ LNBC received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service in 2019. ⁵

Cephus Johnson is the co-founder and CEO LNBC. Johnson is a self-described social justice activist ⁴ who received the radical-left Black Panther Party’s Community Award in 2019. He has received numerous other awards from Oakland, California, and the Black Organizing Project for promoting the critical race theory-influenced concept of social justice in 2019. ³

Johnson also founded the Oscar Grant Foundation, California Families United 4 Justice, and National Families United 4 Justice Network. He has presented on left-of-center issues at conferences including those hosted by Left Forum, US Human Rights Network, Netroots Nation, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), University of Oklahoma’s National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE), Congressional Black Caucus, Teachers for Social Justice, and the National Bar Association. ⁶

Activities and Funding

Love Not Blood Campaign is a left-of-center activist group that is guided by the critical race theory-influenced concepts of racial justice, social justice, and economic justice. ^{1 7} LNBC seeks to create a political movement that eliminates what the group identifies as police violence, community violence, and institutional racism. ¹

All of LNBC’s work is guided by its objectives of creating a “racially just society.” Its leadership expresses the view that individuals should be able to live free from “state-sanctioned violence” and pursues these objectives through healing circles, conferences, movement building, and activism. ¹

LNBC also believes in the critical race theory-influenced concept of institutional racism and supports the critical race theory-influenced concept of economic justice. ¹ LNBC hosts annual conferences ⁸ and operates the left-of-center Healing Through Resistance Campaign ⁹ and Lawyers for the People Campaign to support its objectives. ¹⁰ As of January 1, 2023, the Families United 4 Justice Network has four regional representatives in the united States and has a total of 765 members. ^{8 11}

LNBC is associated with the Andrew Joseph Foundation, Michael Brown Foundation, and the Nathaniel H. Pickett II Foundation. ⁸
