Liberation in a Generation is a left-of-center economic and racial-justice advocacy organization. It was founded in 2018 and is based in Lorton, Virginia. The group promotes the creation of a “Liberation Economy,” which it defines as a restructuring of U.S. economic systems to expand welfare entitlements and dismantle “systems of oppression” affecting people of color. 1

LibGen focuses on building a network of economists and advocates of color and advances policies aligned with major left-of-center institutions, including tax-code redistribution, guaranteed income, and federal reparations. 2 Though it presents itself as a grassroots think tank, LibGen is closely connected to major liberal philanthropies, including the Ford Foundation and the Open Society Foundations’ Soros Equality Fellowship program, and its leadership comes from long-standing professional networks within the left-of-center policy sector. 3  4

Leadership

Co-founder Jeremie Greer worked as one of Liberation in a Generation’s co-executive directors as of 2025. In addition to his role at LibGen, he is vice president for policy and research at Prosperity Now, a left-of-center economic policy and anti-poverty advocacy group focused on household financial security and wealth redistribution. Greer previously worked as a Public Policy Fellow at Independent Sector, a national coalition of left-leaning philanthropic institutions and nonprofits. He holds degrees from the University of St. Thomas and George Mason University, as well as an executive education certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School. 5  6

Co-founder Solana Rice was the other co-executive director as of 2025. Before launching Liberation in a Generation, she worked in senior positions at Prosperity Now, and later at PolicyLink, a prominent left-of-center public-policy organization that advocates for economic “equity,” racial redistribution initiatives, and government-led community development. Rice earned a master’s degree in city planning from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. She also sits on the board of the Rockwood Leadership Institute, a widely used leadership-development program in liberal advocacy networks. 7  8

Both Greer and Rice are Soros Equality Fellows, a fellowship of the Open Society Foundations that provides financial stipends and leadership training to activists working on racial-justice and systemic-change initiatives. The program aims to cultivate advocacy leaders advancing liberal social reforms and provides fellows with as much as $100,000 over an 18-month period. 4

Although she is not listed on Liberation in a Generation’s public-facing website, Ana Maria Argudo-Lord appears on the organization’s 2023 tax return as its chief operating officer. 5 Prior to joining LibGen, she worked at Prosperity Now as director of strategic partnerships and donor engagement, managing fundraising and institutional relationships. 9

Activities and Advocacy

Founded in 2018, Liberation in a Generation promotes a “Liberation Economy,” which it defines as an economic system designed to serve and prioritize communities of color. The organization frames the U.S. economy as one that “extracts from, devalues, and exploits” communities of color and argues that positive change requires dismantling current systems and establishing a new political-economic order. 1

LibGen emphasizes tax policy reform, corporate accountability, and a set of social-welfare guarantees it claims will ensure economic freedom and generational prosperity for people of color. The organization characterizes the U.S. tax code as a “mutual aid system” intended to fund public goods but claims it has been “hijacked by wealthy elites and greedy corporations” to concentrate wealth. LibGen advocates redistributing resources through government programs to expand what it calls “collective wealth.” 10

The organization also promotes seven “Liberation Guarantees”: debt-free college, guaranteed healthcare, guaranteed housing, guaranteed income, federal jobs programs, and guaranteed inheritance through a national “Baby Bonds” initiative and federal reparations program. LibGen states these guarantees are essential to reshape social and economic structures and explicitly frames income, employment, and intergenerational transfers as fundamental rights. 2

In addition to economic policy, the organization calls for curbing corporate power, claiming that large corporations negatively influence wages, environmental conditions, and surveillance practices in communities of color. LibGen’s approach involves regulatory accountability measures and policy proposals to “rewrite the rules” of the economy in favor of historically marginalized groups. 11

Associations

Liberation in a Generation is closely connected to left-of-center advocacy networks. Its leadership as of 2025 previously held senior roles at Prosperity Now, and co-executive director Solana Rice worked at PolicyLink, which awarded LibGen over $1.43 million in 2023 for “crosscutting strategies.”  12  7 Both Greer and Rice are alumni of the Soros Equality Fellowship, a program of the Open Society Foundations that funds and trains racial-justice activists. 4 In 2025, the organization received a $1 million grant from the Ford Foundation. 3

Financials

In 2023, Liberation in a Generation reported $1,101,239 in revenue, $10,089 in expenses, and $1,094,900 in assets. The IRS recognizes the organization as a public charity under 170(b)(1)(A)(vi), a designation for nonprofits that receive substantial support from the general public or government sources. LibGen received federal tax-exempt status in 2024. 13
