The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society was created in 1881 to assist Jewish communities emigrating from Russia and Eastern Europe to the United States. 1 Since 2015, HIAS has resettled refugees, asylees, and Special Immigrant Visa holders (SIVs) to New York City and provided employment counseling, job placement, and vocational training services to these groups. 2
