 The Greenbaum Foundation is a left-of-center grantmaking organization founded in 1992 by Jim Greenbaum that advocates in favor of animal welfare as well as promoting policies regarding environmentalism and weather-dependent energy with a focus on animal-advocacy and environmentalist efforts within the agriculture industry. 1 1

Activities

In 2022, the Greenbaum Foundation provided a $100,000 grant to Sentient Media, a media nonprofit outlet that reports on slaughterhouse operations and livestock farming’s environmental impact, especially greenhouse gas emissions. 2

In 2023, the Foundation made grants to several organizations, including $462,500 to the Karuna Foundation, 3 $125,000 to animal welfare and vegan-advocacy group Animal Outlook, 3 and $100,000 to medical activist group Preventive Medicine Research Institute. 3

The foundation provides grants and funding for the purpose of combatting gender-based violence and child abuse. Its animal-welfare grantmaking promotes plant-based diets for improving global health; advocates ending animal testing, the use of animals in entertainment (including circuses, zoos, and horse-drawn carriages), and industrial animal agriculture; and supports reducing the homelessness rate for companion animals. 4
