    Activities

The Arizona Freedom Foundation aims to hold Arizona’s politicians, news media, and local leaders accountable by providing independent news and analysis, based in research and investigative journalism through its news site AZ Free News.  1

AZ Free News publishes news stories and opinion pieces about state and local politics, education, and economic policy issues in Arizona. As of 2026, its content seems to favor school choice, election integrity, government transparency, and fiscal conservatism while opposing weather-dependent energy mandates and the mainstream media. Along with its original reporting, AZ Free News reposts national news from other right-leaning outlets like the Daily Signal and Daily Caller News Foundation. 2

AZ Free News asserts that corporate media and many journalists have become biased, telling stories that only serve their own interests. It claims that many mainstream journalists are not investigating their stories but rather sharing their opinions or spinning facts to suit their own biases.  1 To counter these biases, in 2024, the AFF spent $130,000 on investigative journalism and research in an effort to provide its readers with proper facts from which they can form their own opinions and conclusions. Its contract researcher filed public records requests and did other research to allow its journalists to focus on telling the stories relevant to the people of Arizona.  3

    Financials

According to its 2024 tax return, the Arizona Freedom Foundation generated $263,735 in revenues from contributions and grants. 4

In 2024, tax filings confirm that the AFF received a contribution of $200,000 from the AZ Liberty Network for public education 5 and $100,000 from the Immanuel Charitable Foundation for educational events.  6

In 2024, the AFF paid out $85,200 in salaries and compensation. Its total expenses were $322,802. 7 Its biggest expense was $157,353 to manage its news website, AZ Free News. It spent $118,000 on freelance investigative journalists and $12,000 on a contract researcher. 3

    Leadership

As of 2026, Eric Porteous was the executive director of the Arizona Freedom Foundation and the managing editor of AZ Free News. 8

Matthew Holloway was, as of 2026, a senior reporter for AZ Free News. Holloway is a right-of-center commentator and writer who covers politics, faith, history, and news. At the time, Holloway was a contributor to Law Enforcement Today, Richard Viguerie’s Conservative HQ, and American Ground Radio.  8

As of 2026, Scot Mussi was serving on the board of the AFF and as the president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club. Mussi was also the chair of the board of the AZ Liberty Network, 9 an organization that contributed $200,000 to AFF in 2024.  5
