Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP) is an advocacy organization that seeks to work with Israelis and Palestinians to pursue policies it believes will bring peace to the region. The group encourages person-to-person engagement to provide better cultural sensitivity.

Alliance for Middle East Peace works with other organizations and assists them in applying for grants, creating connections, administering programs, producing media opportunities, and engaging alumni of organizations to further the peace process. ALLMEP is a coalition of over 170 membership organizations.

History and Mission

Alliance for Middle East Peace was founded in 2006 and is a coalition of over 170 organizations working to bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians. 1 ALLMEP’s mission is to secure funding for organizations to expand trust-building interactions between Israelis and Palestinians. 2 Alliance for Middle East Peace seeks to further conflict resolution and form a two-state solution. 3 ALLMEP uses person-to-person engagement to reduce fear, hatred, and violence, increase economic growth, and promote a greater understanding between the two parties. 4

Activities

Alliance for Middle East Peace is not a grantmaking organization and does not raise funds directly for members but provides consulting services on fundraising, identifies grants and foundations, project validation for funders, and guides to best practices. 5 Alliance for Middle East Peace runs the ScaleHub program that unites and supports non-government organizations (NGOs) to improve effectiveness, cooperation, and strategy for impactful use of grant money for advocacy. 6 In 2021, ScaleHub conducted a fieldwide needs assessment of members and launched training and workshops in priority areas. 7

Alliance for Middle East Peace, through ScaleHub, began a series of social media training in 2021. 8 Training included video production, content creation, social media strategy, digital advertising, and earned media. 9 Marketing and communication professions provided training on how to increase the visibility of peacebuilding between Israel and Palestinians. 10 ScaleHub has also provided NGO training on grant applications, fundraising, and human resource management. 11

In 2019, Alliance for Middle East Peace began an organization of alumni of coalition members named AlumHub. 12 AlumHub has 24 alumni coordinators to work with organizations’ alumni to further engage participation in the peace process. 13 ALLMEP provides a forum for organizational training to build and sustain an alumni network to further a group’s mission. 14

Since inception, the Alliance for Middle East Peace has secured over $400 million in funding including $90 million from the U.S. government for people-to-people peacebuilding. 15  Alliance for Middle East Peace has also received funding for members including $3 million by the Canadian government and £3 million by the United Kingdom. 16

Alliance for Middle East Peace has advocated for the Nina M. Lowey Middle East Partnership for Peace Act (MEPPA) providing a new U.S. government fund of $250 million over at least five years for peace building and Palestinian economic development. 17 While ALLMEP has no direct involvement in the administration of MEPPA funds, the Alliance for Middle East Peace continues to advocate for funding and implementation of the fund. 18

ALLMEP conducts a Mid-East Storyteller program seeking further understanding through stories of peace building in the Middle East where submissions are judged, and prizes awarded for winning entries. 19

Funding

In 2019, the Alliance for Middle East Peace had net assets of $681,872. 20 According to the organization’s tax returns, in 2019 ALLMEP recorded $1,136,928 in revenue and $608,700 in expenses. 21 In 2018, the Alliance for Middle East Peace had $615,268 in revenue and $648,182 in expenses. 22
