The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) is a multi-campus non-denominational mosque based in Sterling, Virginia.

Background

According to the website of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (commonly initialized as ADAMS), the mosque was founded in 1983 by “a small group of families” based in Herndon and Reston, Virginia and has since expanded to include multiple full-service and satellite campuses. 1

The mosque’s main campus, which is located in Sterling, Virginia, can host over 700 attendees and as of November 2022 is still expanding. The mosque’s other full-service campuses, which like its main facility offer a range of prayer services and programming, are located in Ashburn and Chantilly, Virginia. Aside from these three campuses, ADAMS has six satellite campuses, which are located along Virginia Route 267 and Route 28. Largely, these latter campuses are smaller than their counterparts and mainly offer Friday prayer services. Notably, as of November 2022, the ADAMS website notes that another full-service campus in Gainesville, Virginia is “in development.” 2

The staff of ADAMS, totaling 25 individuals, is overseen by an elected executive committee, which reports to a 13-member board of trustees. 3

Programs

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society offers a variety of educational and religious programs to its members and other Muslims in Washington, D.C. and the city’s Northern Virginia suburbs. Chief among these programs are ADAMS’s Radiant Hearts Academy, which offers schooling to children from pre-K through third grade; religious Saturday and Sunday schools, which are variously hosted at the Society’s three full-service campuses and digitally; as well as the Qurtuba Institute, which offers religious-education classes to participating adults. 4 5 6 7

Adams Endowment Fund

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society is itself a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, but the mosque also maintains a separate endowment fund, the ADAMS Endowment Fund Inc., which was registered as a 501(c)(3) in Sterling, Virginia in July 2007. Notably, the board of the endowment fund, which describes its purpose as the “accumulation of funds for future operations of [the] All Dulles Area Muslim Society,” is appointed by the board of ADAMS. According to the Endowment’s 2020 filing with the IRS, the fund’s net assets at the end of the year totaled $6,796,545. 8 9
