The Ali Foundation is a private family foundation in Waverly, Tennessee established by Subhi and Maysoon Ali in 1999. Its largest grant is to the Jerusalem Fund, an anti-Israel group of which Subhi Ali is the board chair. 1 The Jerusalem Fund educates people about Palestinian nationalism. 2

Background

The Drs. Subhi and Maysoon Ali Foundation, also known as the Ali Foundation, was established by Subhi and Maysoon Ali in 1999 as a private foundation located in Waverly, Tennessee. 3

Subhi D. Ali is the foundation’s president. 4 He is a graduate of Howard University Medical School and eventually became chief of surgery at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, Tennessee. He has previously worked for the Tennessee Medical Association and the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners. He is a retired brigadier general of the Tennessee State Guard Medical Corps. As of 2024, he sits on the board of the Physicians Foundation and serves as the board chair for the Tennessee Medical Education Fund, the Jerusalem Fund and the Palestine Center. 5 6

Maysoon S. Ali is the foundation’s vice president and secretary. 7 She graduated from Damascus University in Syria with a medical degree and is a physician and co-owner of the Waverly Clinic in Waverly, Tennessee. 8

Yasmine S. Ali is listed as the foundation’s assistant secretary. 9 She is a cardiologist, an author, and the daughter of Subhi and Maysoon Ali. 10

Funding

In July 2022, Subhi Ali and Maysoon Ali funded the foundation with $50,000 11 and made contributions, gifts, and grants of $24,130. It reported total assets of $140,638. 12

In 2023, its largest grant of $16,000 was to the Jerusalem Fund for Education and Community Development, 13 which works to educate on Palestinian nationalism. 14 Other organizations that fund the Jerusalem Fund include the Network for Good and the Schwab Charitable Fund. 15 The Jerusalem Fund’s website indicates that it is “helping build the movement for Palestinian liberation.” 16

In 2024, the foundation contributed $25,000 to the Jerusalem Fund and was recognized as one of the “Palestine Champions” for its contribution. 17
